Giraffe Class
Autumn Term
Topic: Celebrations
Communication and Interaction
Within these story sessions a key focus is reaching out, engaging and showing a preference to the variety of resources that accompany the story. We are working to develop our preferred method of communication to be able to accurately communicate our wants and needs, we will work to do this by consistently communicating whether we would like ‘more’ of an activity, or we would like this to ‘finish’. As a class, we are using a wide variety of communication methods including; objects of reference, photographs, Makaton Key Word sign and symbols. |
Cognition and Learning
In our cognition sessions, we will continue to focus on our engagement and understanding cause and effect through a variety of ICT and switch activities. Another key focus within cognition is placing objects into a container, and taking these out and engaging with these for an extended period of time, to develop our focus and engagement across a wide variety of different activities. We will continue to develop our attention through our EEP programme, looking at symbols for activities that we are doing now, then progressing to develop an understanding of what activity is coming next.
Physical and Sensory
|
One of our key focus’ physically is being able to access any specialist equipment such as standers, chairs or the floor to be able to explore our classroom environment in different ways. We will continue to participate in individual and group motor development sessions and practices. We also continue to have access to the soft play where we enjoy exploring the light box and moving around and exploring a different environment. Our PE sessions continue to be filled with a variety of different activities, including ball games, and challenging obstacles which allow us to move our bodies in different ways, with a purpose. |
Social, Emotional and Mental Health
We continue to enjoy relaxation sessions, which help us to regulate between sessions in order to be able to access activities as much as possible. A key focus socially, is to begin to interact with our peers intentionally, through seeking them out independently, initiating interactions and being able to access activities within small groups. Within this term, we are continuing to enjoy music sessions with Simon. We are also really enjoying accessing the playground and spending time outside as much as the weather allows. We are also looking to visit our community and enjoy celebrations such as Harvest Festival, with other classes.
