Post 16: Lion Class

Autumn Term

Topic: Enterprising Ideas!

Community Inclusion

We will take part in weekly travel training to develop our independence and community skills. This will include learning how to use our own money to buy food and drinks in local shops and cafes. We will also learn about personal safety in the community, including how to identify trusted adults and who to approach if we need help. As part of our travel training, we will use public transport, including buses to visit a variety of local destinations. Some students will also take part in the Duke of Edinburgh award, where they will develop a wide range of practical life skills, teamwork and independence.

Independent Living

We will continue to develop the skills needed to become more independent adults. As part of this, we will run a café, build our customer service skills and prepare and serve meals for pupils and staff at the Bridge. We will engage in a variety of practical activities that promote independence, such as cooking a healthy meal. These experiences will help equip us with the essential life skills needed for greater independence in the future. We will also continue to develop our communication skills and practice these whilst out in the community.

Towards Employment

This term, we will continue to develop our English and Maths skills to support future employment opportunities. In English, we will focus on identifying different word classes and sentence types, while strengthening our reading and comprehension skills through the Fresh Start programme. In Maths, we will build our confidence with numbers, place value and money, helping us to apply these skills in everyday community settings. We will also take part in a variety of work experience opportunities, including supporting classes at Heatherwood school and gaining practical experience working in the school café.  Some pupils will also take part in work experience at the farm.

Health

We will continue to develop our skills in recognising, managing and regulating our emotions and feelings. Through emotional literacy activities and participation in the drama circle, we will explore how different people may feel in a variety of situations and develop our understanding of the emotions of both peers and adults. We will also strengthen our teamwork and communication skills by working collaboratively with others to support our learning and personal development. In addition, some students will take part in Forest School activities, where they will enjoy spending time outdoors and experience the positive impact that nature can have on their mental health and wellbeing.
