  • Duck Watch: Day 4

    Our ducklings are becoming firm favourites with pupils and staff at Heatherwood. The second duckling has been named Shell-by (from Beaky Blinders) because of the black patch on his head which resembles a newsboy style cap.

    There has still been no movement from the other three eggs in the incubator.

  • Community Tree Planting - 18th March 2026

    Well done to the pupils from The Key class who helped to plant sapling trees at our local wood on Wednesday, 18th March 2026. 

    The saplings were planted as part of Doncaster Council's Children's Future Forest project which will see 366 trees (one for each day of the leap year) established across sites around the city. The saplings were donated by The Tree Council and Defra's Trees Outside Woodland Fund

    Yellow Class watched as the ducklings were moved from the incubator to their new spacious home. The children smiled and gently reached out to touch the ducklings.

  • Duck Watch: Days 1 and 2

    There are egg-citing times ahead at Heatherwood. On Monday, 16th March five eggs were delivered to Heatherwood and kept warm in an incubator. The providers, Incredible Eggs, advised us that the eggs should hatch by Wednesday. 

    However, we had an early arrival on Tuesday morning as one of the eggs hatched. The duckling was named Count Duckula. He can be recognised by his black back, black legs and black beak. By the end of the school day, a second duckling emerged from its shell. This one can be recognised by his dark back, black patch on top of its head, pink legs and pink beak.

    February is full of opportunities to participate in celebrations at Heatherwood. Pupils took part in a range of sensory activities to experience aspects of the Lunar New, Shrove Tuesday and Valentine's Day. A busy half term ended with fun for everyone at the Valentine's Disco.
