Yellow Class

Spring Term

Topic: Animals

Communication and Interaction

This term, our topic books are ‘The Gruffalo’ and ‘Oi Frog’. Within these story sessions a key focus is reaching out, engaging and showing a preference to the variety of resources that accompany the story. We are working to develop our preferred method of communication to be able to accurately communicate our wants and needs, we will work to do this by consistently communicating whether we would like ‘more’ of an activity, or we would like this to ‘finish’. As a class, we are using a wide variety of communication methods including; objects of reference, photographs, Makaton Key Word sign and symbols.

Cognition and Learning

In our cognition sessions, we will continue to focus on our engagement and understanding cause and effect through a variety of ICT and switch activities. Another key focus within cognition is placing objects into a container, and taking these out and engaging with these for an extended period of time, to develop our focus and engagement across a wide variety of different activities. We will continue to develop our attention by looking at symbols for activities that we are doing now, then progressing to develop an understanding of what activity is coming next.

Social, Emotional and Mental Health

We continue to enjoy relaxation sessions, which help us to regulate between sessions in order to be able to access activities as much as possible. During these sessions we enjoy tracking sensory lights both on the screen and on the ceiling, accompanied by calm music to help us to regain our focus, ready to continue learning. A key focus socially, is to begin to interact with our peers intentionally, through seeking them out independently, initiating interactions and being able to access activities within small groups.
