Post 16: Tiger Class

Autumn Term

Topic:

Knowing Me and Celebrating Diversity

Community Inclusion

Our community visits this term will include trips to local shops and community venues, where we will practise using public transport and develop our independence in real-life situations. Some pupils will also take part in the Duke of Edinburgh's Award to build life skills and confidence.

We will be practising using money to make purchases, communicating with members of the public, and staying safe in the community by identifying trusted adults and knowing how to ask for help when needed.

Independent Living

This term in Independent Living we will be focusing on developing the practical skills needed for greater independence in adulthood. We will be learning about healthy eating, preparing simple meals, maintaining a clean and safe environment, and developing work-related skills through our animal care work experience at a local farm.

We will practise these skills by preparing healthy meals, shopping for ingredients, carrying out cleaning tasks, and taking part in animal care activities at the farm. This will include feeding animals, helping to maintain their living areas, and developing responsibility, communication and teamwork skills through hands-on experiences.

Towards Employment

We have been further developing our English and Maths skills, with a focus on applying our learning to real-life situations. In Maths, we have been focusing on time and money, building our confidence in using these skills independently both in school and within the community. In English, we have been studying The BFG and learning about London, exploring its famous landmarks and making links between the story and the wider world. We have enjoyed a range of practical and engaging activities to support our learning. In Autumn 2, we will begin our new topic, Christmas Around the World, where we will learn about different festive traditions and celebrations from across the globe.

Health

To support our mental health this term we will be taking part in Forest School, music and art activities to help us understand and manage our emotions and wellbeing. We will also use the Zones of Regulation to identify our feelings and develop strategies to help us self-regulate. To develop our social skills this term we will participate in drama circle, photography projects and jobs around school, helping us to build confidence, communication and teamwork skills. We will be further developing our skills to manage and regulate our own emotions and feelings through regular discussions, use of the Zones of Regulation, physical activity and practical experiences that promote a healthy lifestyle.
