Post 16: Leopard Class

Autumn Term

Topic: Enterprising Ideas!

Community Inclusion

Our community visits this term will include:

Walkers Garden Centre and Nurseries, Lakeside Shopping Centre, Tesco supermarket, Asda supermarket and Morrisons supermarket.

We will be practising social skills such as waiting, turn taking, choosing and paying for items at the till/checkout and using symbols to locate and identify places in the community.  We will also be making requests and using our preferred methods of communication in practical situations in the wider community.

Independent Living

This term in Independent Living, we will be focusing on basic cooking and communication skills.

Pupils will practise these skills by taking part in weekly cooking skills, and exploring ingredients in a sensory way following clear routines and step by step instructions. There will be opportunities to practise this daily, through breakfast time which includes following routines, helping to prepare food and clearing up.  We will be mixing, spreading and chopping, using our gross motor and fine motor skills. We will also be using our independent living skills to purchase items in the shops that are needed for baking and for snacks.

Towards Employment

Our topic texts this term are: Enterprise Story – A Day In The Life Of A Vet and A Day in the Life of a Nurse.

In our maths sessions we will be working on recognising and continuing number, shape and colour patterns. We will be identifying different shapes of common objects that we see in the classroom and around school, matching these to pictures, objects of reference or symbols.  We will also be comparing and sorting objects into size order.

We will develop our communication by participating in small group games and activities to promote and develop the use of symbols and individual communication aids. Pupils will attend daily phonics/English sessions to work towards their individual targets.

Health

To support our mental health this term we will be participating in weekly sensory dance sessions with dance instructor, Anj. We will also spend time in the wildlife garden looking for signs of Autumn and collecting leaves and other interesting things to use in our Art and Craft work. PE sessions will include lots of team/partner work, problem solving and fun games with Wolf Class.

To develop our social skills this term we will use the drama circle to explore different feelings and emotions, scenarios to recognise kind/unkind actions and to use our observational skills
