Autumn Term Overview

 

Towards Employment

This term’s key text in The Hub is Celebrate!: Discover 50 Fantastic Festivals from Around the World.  We will be working on our listening skills and identifying the sounds and music that we hear linked to the different festivals.

Phonics sessions will see some pupils following the Read, Write, Inc scheme recapping Set 1 sounds and others engaging in choice making activities, communicating their preferences and matching objects to photographs and symbols around school. Pupils will continue to develop their numeracy knowledge and understanding by using a variety of methods such as Numicon, pictorial representation and real-life scenarios to further develop their skills.  Reading will consist of 1:1 reading sessions with staff, whole class stories and Sensory Stories in the library.

 

 

Independent living

We will be developing our independence skills in relation to preparing simple snacks and drinks, following recipes that focus on measuring and weighing. We will be choosing and using the correct utensil, implements and ingredients where appropriate and incorporate Maths and Communication skills into the sessions. We will be exploring ingredients and a variety of foods using all of our senses.

We will be applying our switch skills to activate everyday items, such as whisks and blenders.

 

Community Inclusion

 

This term we will accessing the community and visiting local ca and shops.  These visits will be on a rota so each pupils has the opportunity to access them

We will be spending time in the wider community, such as sensory and wildlife garden.  Developing our understanding of our extended community.

We will also be accessing other areas around the school environment, such as swimming and rebound to develop our physical skills and will be taking part in activities which help develop our understanding and recognition of places around us.

 

Health

We will be learning about and looking at personal hygiene, what we need to do to stay clean and healthy including daily routines.  We will also be looking at healthy habits and good practice when preparing and handling food.  

The Hub pupils will be using the indoor and outdoor swings and focusing on ball and target games in PE.

 

Extended and Enriched

We will be extending our cultural awareness by focusing on different celebrations from around the world.  We will be looking at a range of different festivals, including lesser known ones.

We will be focusing our art work on representing the different festivals that we are researching.

We will be enjoying listening to, making and interpreting a wide range of music from different countries.

 

Careers

Through a variety of activities, including work experience and visits, we will be discovering more about people who work in catering. We will be working as a team and independently to improve our cooking and gardening skills.
