What we are learning in the Spring Term:
Dear Zoo by Rod Campbell and The Gruffalo by Julia Donaldson.
We will continue to:
As part of the sensory and active pathways our studies in the Spring Term, in Squirrels Class will be revolve around our topic: Animals and their homes. We will do this through our creative lessons, where we will look at different animal markings and textures and learn about a different animal each week. In our music lessons, we will focus on The Animal Calypso, using different instruments to represent each animal. Within our cooking lessons, we will explore the different fruits and vegetables that our featured animals eat, and make dishes that contain them. In ICT we will use switches and software to listen to the sounds that different animals make and we will explore interactive technology with an animal based theme.
This will link to the exciting Science Week planned for the 21st to 25th March where we will have visitors from Austerfield and Sam’s Safari. Our students will be able to use their senses to explore the features of each different animal. As always, pupil voice will be at the heart of our work and individual means of communication will continue to be developed, with the focus on self-advocacy.
To fulfil our Equals Curriculum, we will use our outdoor learning environment to focus our learning on planting and growing seasonal plants. We will try to get out into the community as part of our travel training and we are hoping to visit the local libraries and supermarkets. We will strive for all of our young people to advance in their own way, to becoming more independent and to prepare for adulthood.
