Our topic: Places far away - Polar Regions
Communication/Language and Literacy
In Communication and Literacy, we will be working on our social interaction and making choices via our preferred method of communication, we will do daily communication sessions, use switches, signs, symbols and objects of reference and interact with our friends. Our key texts are going to be Polar Bear Polar Bear, Penguin small, lost and Found, Be brave Little Penguin; as well as looking at factual books on Polar regions and developing our early mark making skills.
Cognition
In cognition we will be looking at aspects of math and science via exploring winter, ice, snow and the outdoor environment as well as places far way with our main focus this half term being the Polar regions. We will also look at the Chinese New Year and Valentine’s day. In Math we will look at counting songs, shape, puzzle work, size, sorting, more/less and positional language.
RSHE/PSED
In RSHE/PSED we will look at how we can build relationships, interact with our friends and explore the engage with the wider school community. We will learn about personal hygiene and how we can manage our feelings and emotions, as well as keeping safe. We will also learn about keeping active and eating well via our sensory baking/cooking sessions.
Art/Music
In Art and Music, we will look at various aspects of music that illicit feelings about winter andpolar regions/animals. We will explore Chinese music and play various musical instruments, aswell as make choices with favoured counting songs and rhymes. In Art and crafts we will create winter pictures, and polar animals and explore doughs and different media. We will also create different animal models, snowmen and explore natural materials.
Physical
In Physical development we will follow our postural management programmes and MOVE programmes, as well as access different aspects of fine and gross motor skills via PE sessions in the hall and in soft play/sensory mat sessions. We will work on all our physical skills using a cross curricula approach through our many different sessions in the day, as well as our free choice sessions..
My World
In My World we will be looking at aspects of winter and places far way with our main focus this half term being the Polar regions. We will also look at the Chinese New Year and Valentine’s day. This will be explored on a sensory level, through smells, touch, sounds etc, as well as via PowerPoints, books, small world and role play and first hand experiences in our wild life garden.
