Awards and Recognition

Active Travel Awards

As part of our 6th form curriculum we are frequently out in the community developing independent living and life skills. We access the community in a range of different ways including travelling by mini bus or walking. Whilst out in the community we are promoting road safety, enabling pupils to practice and develop road safety skills. During the Active Travel Awards our pupils were recognised for the work they have been doing to ensure they are safe at all times whilst out within the community particularly travelling in an eco-friendly way.

Investors in Pupils Award

Heatherwood has been awarded the Investors in Pupils Award for the second time.

Member of the Special Schools Network

Eco Silver Award.

Throughout the year the pupils and staff at Heatherwood School have been Eco Warriors.

We have been making sure taps, lights and whiteboards turned off when not in use, and thinking green all the time. Also this year as part of obtaining the Silver Award, we took part in the National Compost Week. We made compost bins for our classrooms and did some work on recycling food etc. Also we made some bug hotels which are situated in our Wildlife Garden. The Eco Committee made up of pupils and staff held meetings throughout the year to make decisions about what we would do. The committee came up with our fantastic Eco Code which is displayed in our main entrance. Well done everyone for helping us achieve our Silver Award.
